The village entrepreneur

Si Thu Phyo, a 17-year-old from War Taw Kone village, quit school when he was 12 years old following his parents' divorce. Raised alongside his three siblings by their grandfather, financial struggles soon forced him into dangerous fishing work, but that is not the end of Si Thu Phyo's story.

9 August 2024

Si Thu Phyo's life changed when he received livelihood support and business training from the ILO. With this help, he transitioned from fisherman to water-selling entrepreneur in his village. He now dreams of pursuing a mechanics course and building a long-term business career, determined to create a better future for himself.

This video was produced by the ILO’s partner in Labutta Township as part of capacity building support to produce impact stories of project beneficiaries.

The project is supporting vulnerable children above the minimum legal working age to access skills training and youth employment, protecting them from hazardous work.
