Smiling towards a brighter future
Chit Yin Htoo, a 14-year-old, had to leave school to work due to his father's illness and his family's debt, earning just 3,000 Kyat (US$1.4) for long hours of labour. His parents attended awareness sessions on child labour supported by the ILO and decided to enrol him in vocational training.

Chit Yin Htoo successfully completed a 45-day welding course and now earns 14,000 Kyat (US$7) a day working with his uncle, contributing to his family and saving for himself.
This video was produced by ILO’s partner in Dagon Seikkan Township as part of capacity building support to produce impact stories of project beneficiaries.
The project is supporting vulnerable children above the minimum legal working age to access skills training, youth employment and protect them from hazardous work.
In Myanmar the minimum working age is 14 years old and the country has ratified ILO Convention 138 in 2020.
