An introduction to sector skills bodies

Sector level organizations such as sector skills bodies or sector skills councils are increasingly used to improve coordination between Technical Vocation Education and Training and the labour market.  Sector skills bodies convene employers and other social partners to provide policy advice and feedback for skills development. They can also address a broad range of matters where increased involvement and dedication from the industry are deemed necessary.

The establishment of sector skills bodies involves key questions:

  • What priority issues in the skills development system will sector skills bodies address?
  • How should sector skills bodies be structured and resourced to meet these obligations?

This workshop will provide participants with knowledge on the rationale for establishing organizations at the sector level, discuss their coverage, roles and responsibilities and review funding options to support their mandates. Participants will also benefit from examples of good practices from other countries and practical exercises to identify the institutional framework appropriate to the national context.
