BALAKA, Malawi (ILO News) - The launch, held in Balaka District, signifies Malawi’s commitment to fostering safer, more dignified, and equitable workplaces for all.

Developed with financial support from the ILO-Norway Project on Promoting Workers’ Rights and Gender Equality at Work in Africa – Phase I, this Code of Conduct aligns with the principles of ILO Convention No. 190 (C190), which upholds the fundamental right to a workplace free from violence, harassment, and gender-based discrimination.  It is also a key milestone in Malawi’s ongoing efforts to ratify C190, ensuring that national labour policies reflect international best practices.

Speaking at the event, ILO Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, Mr. Wellington Chibebe, emphasized the critical role of C190 in safeguarding workers from abuse while promoting equality, safety, and health in the workplace.

This Code of Conduct is a testament to Malawi’s unwavering commitment to eliminating gender-based violence and harassment. It provides essential guidance for prevention and response, strengthening the protection of all workers
